It is my pleasure to welcome all of you who are following KWUST 12th Virtual Graduation Ceremony which is aired live thro’ several social media platforms.

On behalf of the University Management, Senate and on my own behalf, may I extend my sincere congratulations to all the 2020 class of graduands, their parents, guardians and friends during this ceremony.

Indeed this is a very special day for the graduands as they celebrate the years of hard work, dedication and sacrifice in the course of their studies here at the University.

Your parents and guardians all who are watching us live have sacrificed their comforts for those years just to ensure you succeed in your studies.  They are looking ahead with confidence and hoping that better days lie ahead.

We have imparted you with the skills, insights and ideas which shall serve you well and in the future. Your life will be your story and the adventure ahead of you is the journey to fulfill your own purpose and potential.

Mr. Chancellor Sir, since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic that led to the closure of all learning institutions, the Internet has changed our lives and way of doing things.  It has changed the physical lecture halls we were used to teach from.

KWUST took the bold step immediately and wasted no time to ensure our students continued learning uninterrupted.  Our students have also been able to access virtual assessment of learning through CATs and Exams, virtual admissions and orientation of new students.

Mr. Chancellor Sir, I wish to report that the University will continue with its core mandate of offering quality university education.  Our Graduands today can attest to this.  Not only do they demonstrate academic excellence but the graduands following this ceremony virtually espouse the virtues of Honesty, Humility, Objectivity and Tolerance. Today we are sending out 1,300 graduates who are well prepared to face the future with confidence.

Mr. Chancellor Sir, the University also continues to grow in the number of students enrolled in our range of competitive and market driven programmes which are all aligned to the vision and mission of the University. Next year we expect to graduate the first cohort of Bachelor of Education (Arts) graduands. In the coming 2 months we look forward to Launching a Master’s degree programme in Business Administration courses in the School of Business and  Management, which is awaiting final inspection of the facilities by CUE. We are also anticipating to Launch new undergraduate programs in Procurement and Supply Chain Management and also Bachelor of Information Technology degree programmes.

Finally, Graduands, as you celebrate your achievements, always aim high, work hard and care deeply about what you believe in.  Wherever you go, go with all your heart.  You will stumble and fall, you will experience both disaster and triumph, but neither triumphs nor disasters will last forever. To the parents and guardians who entrusted us with their girls, we say thank you and we hope that today you are happy your daughters have made you proud and have kept their promise.  Today they are a different people ready for the next step in their lives.  To our current students, I would like to wish you success in your ongoing virtual exams and welcome you to the new academic year starting 1st September, 2020.

Congratulations the class of 2020 and God bless you all!

Prof. Justus K. Mile, (Ph.D, M.Sc., BSc.)
Vice Chancellor
