It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Kiriri Women’s University of Science and Technology (KWUST). It is a fully chartered University committed to scholarly excellence through teaching, learning, and research as well as developing fully-rounded graduates in all areas of human life.

The School of Education has made a significant contribution to the training of teachers with a focus on self and societal transformation. Teachers play an indispensable part in the development of society by teaching, learning and nurturing individuals. The School of Education has made significant strides in this direction since its inception in 2018. From the first nucleus of eight students, the school has now grown to over five hundred students.

The School of Education is committed to excellence in teaching and learning as well as practical-oriented learning in producing dynamic teachers who fit in our ever-changing society and the current Competency Based Curricum reforms. Towards this excellence, the school has qualified staff in all the various disciplines and specializations. Currently, the school has  fourteen qualifed staff eihgt  of whom have fully obtained their PhDs with the rest near completion. The lecturers are specialists in areas such as English, Literature; Kiswahili; Geography; History; Educational Psychology and Curriculum Development; Religion/Theology; Mathematics and Business.

In being practical, the School combines both learner and student-centered approaches to learning. With courses like moral development on offer and with the guidance given by lecturers in class, the school endeavors to produce well-rounded graduates who are not only knowledgeable but morally upright.

The Bachelor of Education arts has several specializations. Currently, we have eight specializations in English, Literature, Mathematics, Business Administration, Geography; Kiswahili; Christian Religious Education and History. Out of this, various specializations are done such as Mathematics and Business; Mathematics and Geography; Christian Religious Education and Kiswahili and such related combinations.

In meeting the scientific part of education, a new program; Bachelor of Education (Science) has been developed and will be rolled out in the course of the year 2024  It will comprise subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science.   It will feature modern laboratories fully equipped for effective teaching and learning process.

Further, the School of Education in conjunction with the library has sourced books and journals and relevant materials for effective teaching and learning. New books are added are new Journal links updated to ensure relevancy.

The School is driven by academic excellence with a view of producing teachers who meet the educational and social needs of high school education, a number of steps have been taken. One is periodical training of lecturers on Curriculum Based Competency. We have done the first initial training and the second one is in pipeline. Two, giving critical assignments that evoke critical thinking and research. Three, placing and thoroughly assessing students during their teaching practice (TP) to ensure competency in teaching. Four guidance and counseling within and outside the classroom setting.

Besides the curriculum aspects, the School also encourages students to get involved in various clubs such as the debate and drama club which are vital in cushioning the various talents of the students. Students are also encouraged to get involved in sports. The School in conjunction with the sports department is initiating a program for students talented in sports to be trained as coaches for the various games of interest. This will give them an added advantage in the field.
